Tim Perkins graduated from Trinity College of music in 1982 and has been active as a teacher, performer, and composer ever since. "My approach to instrumental tuition embraces folk and world music and improvisation whilst helping to develop a solid technique and a fundamental grasp of music theory." Tim uses the Trinity Guildhall board for exam purposes, and has just successfully completed an FTCL in composition and orchestration. He is now working towards a composition PhD at Birmingham Conservatoire.

Fiddle demon and resident charmer Tim plays a unique combination of Folk jazz and classical styles… delivered with an electric punch. He is creator of long established band ’Finality Jack’ who have produced 2 Cds and performed at many major folk festivals including Sidmouth, Ely, Cheltenham, Richmond and Ellesmere. He has also toured several European and Scandinavian countries as a session fiddle player clocking up hundreds of gigs over the last 20 years. His wife Susie thinks he is the best fiddler in the band.

Tim has been playing violin for most of his life, and is happy teaching advanced students and complete beginners alike, (all ages welcome!). "As far back as I can remember to my school days I've enjoyed a wide variety of musical styles which I have employed as a performer, playing electric violin in bands from the age of 16 with considerable experience in folk/ jazz/ rock/ avant garde mediums, I have toured all over Scandinavia as a session player, and Spain and Portugal with my own band 'Finality Jack', which produced two critically acclaimed albums and featured in several major UK folk/ world music festivals. I have also just written and produced a tune book, 'Fardello' for violinists at grade 3 - 4 standard, and have also arranged it for flute. New material is currently being worked on and a second book in the pipeline!

Finality Jack

Finality Jack are a contemporary music duo currently made up by Tim Perkins and Susanna Jones, though they have been through several line-up changes since their foundation in 1995. the driving force behind FJ's sound is the unlikely combination of Tims Violin and Susie's Bassoon, complimented by Bouzouki, Descant Recorder and Percussion. Their playing styles come from the classical school of thought, with folk meanderings. FJ are primarliy accoustic and instrumental, using traditional European dance rhythms as a structural basis, but with minimal, orchestral, Baroque, Celtic, Folk, Jazz and Pop influences going into the mix. Add mediaeval textures, Victorian trick photography, just a pinch of Psychedelia, and then its ready to serve like a tall, heady cocktail of Sound. Sounds like? Duh....you tell me! Stravinsky meets a local Morris dancing team at a rave in Wonka's chocolate factory and they discuss quality footwear over generous slurpings of Chivas Regal and fortified Plum Duff. In the background, a flight of Golden Cherubs synchronize to form snowflake patterns before they slowly melt away into the night.....ah
